José Fardilha - Brander
Born in Portugal, he won the "Toti dal Monte" Prize, that led him to make his
debut in Don Giovanni (Leporello) in Treviso, Rovigo, Strasbourg and
Trieste.
After that he
began a career that brought him in the world's greatest opera houses and
festivals, including: Wiener Staatsoper; Salzburger Festspiele; Barbican Center
in London; Opéra de Paris; Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin; Bayerische
Staatsoper in Munich; Zurich Opernhaus; Teatro alla Scala in Milan; Teatro Regio
in Turin; Opera in Rome; Teatro La Fenice in Venice; Teatro del Maggio Musicale
in Florence; Arena Sferisterio in Macerata; Martina Franca Festival; Teatro São
Carlos in Lisbon and New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.
Mr. Fardilha
regularly collaborated with prestigious conductors, such as Claudio Abbado,
Paolo Arrivabeni, Paolo Carignani, Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta and Riccardo
Muti and with directors as Gianfranco De Bosio, Emilio Sagi, Giorgio Strehler.
Mr. Fardilha also enjoys a vast concert activity, interpreting for example:
Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle conducted by Michel Corboz; Beethoven's
9th Symphony with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra conducted by
Dimitri Kitaenko; Stravinsky's Les Noces; Puccini's Messa di Gloria;
Orff's Carmina Burana; and Handel's Messiah.
After his recent successes in Don Pasquale at the Glyndebourne Festival,
as Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola in Leipzig and as Fra’ Melitone in
La Forza del Destino in Genève, his future plans include: Il
Barbiere di Siviglia at the Covent Garden in London, at the Staatsoper in
Berlin and in Stuttgart; Don Giovanni with the Budapest
Festival Orchestra on tour in San Sebastian, Budapest and at the Edinburgh International Festival;
revivals of La Cenerentola in Leipzig.
